A Chair at the service of the indigenous communities

The UNESCO and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) have launched an UNESCO Chair of linguistic technologies named TECLIN. One of its applications will be promoting the use of the native language of these communities in education.
The UNESCO Chairs were created in 1962 by the United Nation Organization for Education, Science, and Culture, with the objective of improving scientific searching and higher education by means of inter-university cooperation and knowledge transfer between countries.
In the world, there are nowadays more than 770 UNESCO Chairs of different fields, of which more than 60 have been created by Spanish universities.
The TECLIN Chair, directed by professor Jesús Cardeñosa of the UPM, centres its activities in Linguistic Engineering, childhood education, illiteracy, cultural diversity, multiculturality, and transference of technology.
The Chair is carried out by the search group “Validación y Aplicaciones Industriales” (VAI) (Validation and Industrial Applications) of the Computer Faculty of the UPM, and various Latin American universities, members of the UNITWIN, a network created in 1992 by the UNESCO with the aim of developing the cooperation between universities, and boosting the exchange of knowledge and the academic solidarity in the world.
