The TECLIN Chair is creating an academic infrastructure specialised in the most advanced technologies of Linguistic Engineering to produce contents in indigenous languages, initially in Quechua, Guarani, and Mapuche.
The Quechua is a family language coming from the Central Andes which extends throughout Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, and is spoken by between eight and ten million people. The Guarani language is spoken by eight million people at the Southern Cone of America. The Mapuche language is the language of the Mapuche people, an Amerindian community that lives in Chile and Argentina. The number of active speakers is estimated to be between 100,000 and 200,000, and the number of passive speakers is estimated to be 100,000 people more.
