A thesis of the UHU about computational linguistics obtains a national prize

The thesis Detection of negation and speculation in medical and opinion texts of the doctor Noa Cruz, from the Department of Information Technologies of the University of Huelva, has been awarded with the first prize of the 13th edition of the SEPLN Awards (Spanish Society for Natural Language Processing) for its labour researching in Natural Language Processing. The aim of the thesis is the promotion and divulgation of research in this field. This prize is framed within the Congress of this society, which holds every year scientific sessions about PLN (morphological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic analysis, computational lexicography, automatic translation, voice technologies, person-machine communication environments in natural language, documentary management, and corpus linguistics).

The researcher defended her thesis to the committee, which was composed of Jacinto Mata Vázquez, titular professor of the Department of Information Technologies and director of the Superior Technical School of Engineering of the University of Huelva; Manuel de Buenaga Rodríguez, professor of Computer Languages and Systems of the European University of Madrid; and Mariana Lara Neves, postdoctoral researcher of the University of Berlin. This thesis obtained, apart from an international mention, a distinction cum laude.
