The Academy of Indigenous Languages of Veracruz (Aveli) of Mexico has used social networks with the aim of strengthening, disseminating and promoting indigenous languages of the entity, according to a statement.
Through the campaign #DiversidadLingüística, the institution generates basic contents in various indigenous languages in order to disseminate them through computer graphics, audios, and specialised microsites for the teaching-learning of this languages.
The general director of Aveli, Lucía Tepole Ortega, explained that the campaign uses technology to preserve languages, promoting, in this way, the empowerment of indigenous communities in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), making possible the use of the mother tongue of those speakers and people who want to use it in this area.
This strategy is promoted through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Souncloud, where users have shown high acceptance and interest. This makes evident the presence of indigenous languages and their adaptation to new social and technological contexts.
