Bilingualism and multilingualism experts from universities from all over the world, and representatives of the different approaches in this field, have met these days at the University Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona in order to take part in the fourth edition of the Summer School in bilingualism and multilingualism.
The opening ceremony took place on Monday, informs the press release of the UPF, and finishes today, with 80 national and international participants.
Samy Alim, professor of Education, Anthropology, and Linguistics of the University of Stanford (USA) has been invited by the Department of Humanities to give the master class African American Language Use: Implications for Bilingual and Multilingual Education about bilingualism of African-Americans.
Alim has more than fifteen years of experience in ethnographic research about linguistic practices of the linguistically marginalised young people, and the implications associated with it in bilingual and multilingual education. Alim has also talked about the ethnographic projects in progress, which are centred in language, race, ethnic origin, and education in the cities, “from Philadelphia to San Francisco.”
